Synopsis – What to Expect from “She Wore a Yellow Ribbon”
‘She Wore a Yellow Ribbon’ is a 1949 American Western war film directed by John Ford and starring John Wayne. The film follows the story of Captain Nathan Brittles (John Wayne) as he embarks on his last mission as an Army officer.
The film opens with Captain Brittles and his troop of cavalrymen on their way to Fort Starke in the Arizona Territory. Along the way, they encounter a group of Cheyenne Indians who are on a mission to retrieve a sacred eagle feather. After a brief skirmish, the cavalrymen are able to capture the eagle feather and return it to the fort.
At the fort, Brittles is informed by his superior, Colonel Thursday, that he is to be retired from the Army due to his age. Despite his reluctance, Brittles agrees to take one last mission before his retirement. He is tasked with leading a group of men to the town of Apache Wells in order to protect the settlers from a band of renegade Indians.
Brittles and his men set out on their mission and soon come across a group of Indians led by Chief Pony That Walks. After a tense standoff, the Indians agree to leave the settlers alone in exchange for a yellow ribbon. Brittles agrees and the Indians depart peacefully.
