After discovering that the men responsible are a group of Confederate soldiers, led by Major Cassius Starbuckle (Jorge Rivero), McNally sets off on a mission of revenge. Along the way, he meets a young woman, Shasta Delaney (Jennifer O’Neill), who is searching for her father, and a former Confederate soldier, Colonel Cord Hardin (Jack Elam), who is determined to avenge the death of his son.
McNally and Hardin eventually join forces and set out to take down the men responsible for the massacre. Along the way, they encounter a group of Mexican bandits, led by the ruthless Chico (Christopher Mitchum), who are determined to take over the town of Rio Lobo.
