Synopsis/Plot
Doctor Dolittle is a 1998 family comedy film directed by Betty Thomas and starring Eddie Murphy as the title character. The film is based on a series of books by Hugh Lofting, and tells the story of a doctor who can talk to animals.
The movie begins with Doctor John Dolittle (Murphy) living a peaceful life in the English countryside with his wife and two children. However, his peaceful life is disrupted when a circus tiger falls ill and is brought to his home. After examining the tiger, he realizes that he can understand what the animal is saying, and that he can communicate with other animals as well.
Soon, Doctor Dolittle is visited by a circus owner who wants him to help cure the animals in his circus. Doctor Dolittle agrees and sets out on a journey to find the cure. Along the way, he meets a variety of different animals, such as a monkey, a bear, a parrot, and a dragon, all of whom need his help.
Doctor Dolittle also meets a beautiful animal-loving woman named Lily (Kristen Wilson), who helps him on his quest. Together, they travel to a hidden island where they discover the cure for the animals’ ailments. But
