Synopsis – What to Expect from “Hello Herman”
Hello Herman tells the story of Herman Howards, a high school student who is struggling with his mental health and the social pressures of being a teenager. Herman is a loner who is often bullied and ostracized by his peers. After a particularly difficult day, Herman goes to school with a gun and opens fire, killing several of his classmates before turning the gun on himself.
The film follows the aftermath of this tragedy, as the media, the public, and the victims’ families attempt to make sense of the tragedy. The film also follows Herman’s best friend, Mary, as she struggles to come to terms with her friend’s actions and cope with the guilt she feels for not being able to help him.
The film takes an unflinching look at the events leading up to the shooting, as well as the impact it has on Herman’s family, friends, and the community. It is a powerful and thought-provoking look at the effects of mental illness, bullying, and violence in our society.
