Synopsis – What to Expect from “Martyrs”
Martyrs is a 2016 French-Canadian psychological horror film written and directed by Pascal Laugier. The film follows a young woman named Lucie (Mylene Jampanoi) as she seeks revenge for the abuse she suffered as a child.
The film begins with Lucie as a young girl, living in an orphanage. She is subjected to abuse by the orphanage staff, and her only solace is her friend Anna (Morjana Alaoui). One day, Lucie and Anna escape the orphanage and set out to find the people who hurt them. After a long search, they find a family living in a remote farmhouse. Lucie and Anna break into the house and brutally murder the family, believing them to be the ones who abused them.
After the murders, Lucie and Anna are taken into police custody. Lucie is sent to a psychiatric hospital, where she is haunted by visions of a mysterious woman. She soon discovers that the woman is a former inmate of the psychiatric hospital, and was tortured by the same people who abused Lucie and Anna. Lucie is determined to get revenge on those who hurt her and her friend, and she escapes the hospital with the help of Anna.
Lucie and Anna go on a rampage of revenge, killing anyone who was involved in the abuse. However, they soon discover that the people who hurt them were part of a much larger and more sinister organization. Luc
