Synopsis/Plot

The Super Mario Bros. Movie is a 1993 live-action/animated fantasy film based on the popular Super Mario Bros. video game series. Directed by Rocky Morton and Annabel Jankel, the movie follows the adventures of Mario and Luigi, two Italian-American plumbers from Brooklyn, New York, who travel to an alternate universe where they must save a princess from an evil king.

The movie begins with Mario and Luigi, played by Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo respectively, being caught up in a mysterious incident in Brooklyn. After being transported to a parallel universe, the brothers find themselves in the kingdom of Dinohattan, a world populated by humanoid dinosaurs. Here, they meet Princess Daisy, playedby Samantha Mathis, who is being held captive by the evil King Koopa, played by Dennis Hopper. King Koopa has been using a magical meteorite to turn the peaceful citizens of Dinohattan into his mindless minions. Mario and Luigi must team up with Daisy to save the kingdom from Koopa’s tyranny and restore the peace. Along the way, they encounter a variety of obstacles, including the giant Goombas, Koopa’s Koopa Troopas, and even a giant mechanical dinosaur. After a series of comical misadventures, Mario and Luigi ultimately prevail and restore peace to Dinohattan.
