Synopsis/Plot
The Lost City is a 2005 drama directed by Andy Garcia. It tells the story of a family living in Havana, Cuba in the 1950s. Fico Fellove (Garcia) is a nightclub owner and the patriarch of the family. He is a proud Cuban who loves his country and his family. His son, Luis (Enrique Murciano), is a young man who is struggling to find his place in the world and his own identity.
When Fidel Castro and his revolutionaries come to power, Fico is forced to make a difficult decision: to stay in Cuba and fight for his country or to leave and take his family to the United States. Fico chooses to stay, but Luis cannot bear to leave hisfather and the country he loves, and decides to stay as well.
The film follows Luis as he experiences the changes brought about by the revolution, and his struggle to maintain his father’s legacy in the face of a new and uncertain future. The film also explores the complex relationship between Cuba and the United States, and the difficulty of maintaining one’s cultural identity in the face of political upheaval. Through Luis’ story, The Lost City paints a vivid portrait of a people and a culture in transition.
