Synopsis/Plot
You’ve Got Mail is a 1998 romantic comedy starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. The movie follows two rival book store owners, Joe Fox (Hanks) and Kathleen Kelly (Ryan), who unknowingly fall in love with each other through anonymous online correspondence.
Joe is the owner of a large chain book store, Fox Books, which is threatening to put Kathleen’s small, independent children’s book store, The Shop Around the Corner, out of business. Despite their rivalry, Joe and Kathleen develop a deep connection through their online conversations and eventually meet in person.
Joe is initially unaware of Kathleen’s identity, and is surprised when he discovers the woman he’s fallen in love with is his business rival. Despite their differences, the two eventually realize that their online relationship is more than just a passing fancy and they decide to take a chance on love.
