Synopsis – What to Expect from “You’re Not You”
You’re Not You is a 2014 drama film about a young woman’s journey to find herself. The film follows Kate (Hilary Swank), a successful classical pianist, who is diagnosed with ALS, a degenerative neurological disease.
Kate’s life is turned upside down as she is forced to adjust to her new reality. She is no longer able to play the piano, and is struggling to come to terms with her diagnosis. She is also struggling with her marriage to Evan (Josh Duhamel), who is trying to support her but is also struggling with his own feelings of helplessness.
In a desperate attempt to find some kind of control over her life, Kate hires Bec (Emmy Rossum), a young, free-spirited college student, to be her caretaker. Bec is initially hesitant to take the job, but eventually agrees.
As Bec and Kate’s relationship develops, Bec helps Kate to find joy in her life again. She helps Kate to find beauty in the small moments, and encourages her to find new ways to express her creativity. Bec also helps Kate to reconnect with her estranged daughter, Ella (Erin Wilhelmi).
Meanwhile, Bec begins to struggle with her own life and relationships. She is facing the same pressures as Kate, but is also trying to make it through college and deal with her own personal struggles.
The film follows both women on their journeys of self-discovery and healing
