Synopsis/Plot
Young Frankenstein is a classic 1974 comedy horror film directed, produced, and co-written by Mel Brooks. It stars Gene Wilder as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein, a descendant of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, and Peter Boyle as the creature he creates.
The film follows Dr. Frankenstein as he inherits his family’s castle and decides to continue his ancestor’s work in creating life. He is joined by his hunchbacked assistant Igor (Marty Feldman), and his fiancée, Elizabeth (Madeline Kahn). Together they set out to create a new creature, using parts from corpses. However, things don’t go as planned and the creature is brought to life with unexpected results.
The film is filled with comedic moments, such as when the creature is taught to dance and sing, and when it is put on trial for a crime it didn’t commit. There is also a running gag in which Frankenstein’s name is mispronounced as “Fronkensteen.”
Young Frankenstein is a classic parody of the horror genre, with an all-star cast and clever writing. It is considered one of Mel Brooks’ best films and has become a cult classic.
