Synopsis – What to Expect from “You Can’t Take It with You”
You Can’t Take It with You is a classic romantic comedy set in the 1930s. It tells the story of the eccentric Sycamore family who live in a ramshackle house in New York City. The patriarch of the family, Martin Sycamore, is a former businessman who left his job to pursue his passion for inventing, while his daughter Alice and her fiancé Tony are a young couple in love.
The story begins when Tony’s wealthy and snobbish parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kirby, come to visit the Sycamores. They are appalled by the family’s unconventional lifestyle and disapprove of Alice and Tony’s relationship. To make matters worse, Tony’s sister Essie is a professional dancer and her husband Ed is a fireworks maker. The Kirbys are convinced that the Sycamores are a bad influence on their son and try to break up the couple.
Alice and Tony refuse to give up on each other and enlist the help of the Sycamore family to show the Kirbys that they are not so bad after all. The family puts on a performance for the Kirbys, featuring Essie’s dancing and Ed’s fireworks. The performance is a success and the Kirbys are finally won over by the Sycamores’ fun-loving spirit.
Alice and Tony are finally able to get married, and the movie ends with the family celebrating their union. The movie’s main message is that money can’t buy happiness,
