For quite some time, we wanted to review a screen recording application. We were looking for a screen recording app that would record my screen, my audio narrative, webcam feed and then allow me to edit and transform that recording into quality source content on different social media platforms.
While skimming through all the available options online, we found out about Wondershare DreamCreator.
In this Wondershare DreamCreator review, we would tell why it’s more than just any ordinary screen recorder, and why it’s worth checking out.
This post will also enlist other Democreator alternatives, who should be using DemoCreator, and the noteworthy features it comes loaded with.
Why should You Install Wondershare Screen Recorder?
Screen recorders have become a must-have application in every content creator’s arsenal. It’s easy to record your user actions than document them with screenshots or record them from another camera. Even top YouTube gaming channels use screen recorders for their high frame-rate content recording.
Wondershare screen recorder has all the makings of being a top-of-the-line screen recorder. It will cater to almost all your demo creation, tutorial, or other screen recording needs. It has two primary components. A screen recorder, and an editor to edit your recordings.
To start recording, all you need to do is configure your recording window, and the screen recorder would record your actions on screen and through the webcam. It can also record your audio so that you can make a recording of a complete demo/video tutorial by using a single application.
That’s not all, once the recording is completed, the editor lets you fine-tune your recordings, add annotations, highlight key points and add sparkle to your recording. Quite literally!
You can use Wondershare DemoCreator Screen Recorder to
Record Presentations
If you are showcasing your software application to a client, you can either give them a live demo or record a walkthrough of your application. Capture the best features and instill their trust in your product.
With the current work-from-home situation and the looming uncertainty, it’s better to have a recording of a demo handy. Even if it’s just for a backup.

I loved the presentation recording feature because it lets me record my actions and then I can edit my recording to add cool highlights and annotations to them, crop or trim them and then post different versions of it on different social media platforms.
In a way, the Wondershare screen recorder makes my content more reusable. I can change the resolution, crop, or trim my recording so that I can use the same core content on different platforms.
TIP: You can mute your presentation recording and play/pause or scroll through it, and use it as a PPT presentation too.
Make Training Courses
The E-learning market is blossoming. According to the online education statistics for 2022, it has currently reached over $200 billion and could even rise to $376 billion by 2026. E-learning platforms like Udemy, are helping millions of people to get up-to-date with their respective line of work with detailed courses.
You can use the Wondershare DemoCreator screen recorder, to create professional training course videos in a few hours. The screen recorder would record all the action on your screen, the microphone would record your narrative, and the webcam would record all those whiteboard flow charts and notes. While editing, you can type in the notes as anecdotes and key points and place them in your recording.
As a part of the editing, you can pan and zoom to a different portion of your video, to lay emphasis or highlight a specific topic.
Make Tutorials
If you are a teacher and planning to conduct a KT session with your class/team, it’s better to keep a recording of it so that you need not create your material from scratch every time.
With the help of the Wondershare DemoCreator screen recorder, you can create the perfect tutorial. By recording the screen you can run over the material that you are teaching your students. You can use your webcam to record some demos or demonstrate other practical examples.
Once you have recorded the session, you can patch in a microphone and record audio for hands-on sessions which you can layer together with your demo recording.
For example, an origami tutor can display the different angles and places where the paper folds need to be done, while the webcam footage can show how he/ she folds the paper while the audio recording narrates the whole process.
The DemoCreator editor can help you add all the finishing touches, like adding captions and annotations, and other styling elements in the video.
Record Gameplay
Recording your favorite PC video game walkthrough and gameplay is pretty straightforward with Wondershare DemoCreator. It provides you with different ways to record your gameplay. Yes, you can even record games with a very high refresh rate of 60 FPS and above.

The recording interface is simple and you can select whether you want to record your audio and webcam video. While playing video games, you can record your performance and by using DemoCreator hotkeys and shortcut keys, you can pause, stop or start recording while you are playing the game.
Once recorded you can edit the recording as per your requirements upload it to YouTube.
Record Reaction videos
Reaction videos are a rage all over the internet, especially on YouTube. A reaction video primarily consists of a person reacting to a video/audio footage. Such videos generally revolve around reacting to movies/trailers/ songs/video clips.
And guess what? All different software do you need to set up your own React channel? Just one.
You can use the Wondershare DemoCreator screen recorder to record the trailer/video you are reacting to. While the microphone and webcam capture your audio and facial expressions. Once you are done, just edit your recording, add messages/info and upload to your YouTube channel.

Once the download is complete, double-click to install the DemoCreator screen recorder on your machine. After installation is complete you can see the record installation guide, which briefs you about how to get started with DemoCreator.

Hands-on Experience
For this Wondershare DemoCreator review, I downloaded the software on a Windows platform. The downloaded installer was light, roughly 1.1 MB.
Recorder Overview
After launching the application, you can either start recording your screen or opt to edit existing recordings. The following points will prove to you how handy the screen recorder is.
- Custom Screen selection – On clicking “New Recording”, you can choose the screen you want to record and also provide the resolution. You can even manually pan the selection screen that you want the DemoCreator to record. The recording device section on the right of the recording console lets you select the recording mediums. Depending on your preference, you can enable/ disable webcam and audio recordings while Wondershare DemoCreator records the screen.

- Handy Drawing Tools – The toggle button at the bottom enables or disables the screen drawing tool. When turned on, the screen drawing tools appear on the top of the screen, and you can use these tools as pointers while you are recording a presentation or tutorial. Minimize the recording console and the webcam screen when you start recording. You can later adjust your webcam recording in the editor tool.

- Hotkeys and advanced recording options – Once you have minimized the recording console, you can press F9 to pause/ resume recording and F10 to start/ stop recording. To further customize the screen recorder, click on the gear icon on the top right corner of the recorder console. From this screen, you can customize screen frame rate, audio & video quality, and set-up your hotkeys.

- Gameplay recording mode – I loved the exclusive option for Game recording in DemoCreator. If you have a game running, you can select the game from the drop-down, select frame rate, and click capture. DemoCreator then automatically switches to the selected game and the recording begins. Once your gameplay recording is complete, click “F10” to stop your recording.
Editor Overview
After you have completed recording your content, it’s time to edit it. After you finish recording, the recorded video opens up in the Wondershare DemoCreator editor. You can either save the video in a project to be edited later or import existing media.

You can also import images, audio, and videos that you want to add to your screen recordings. Following are some of the features of Wondershare DemoCreator editor that got my attention.
- Audio Editing – Audio editing is a pretty neat feature. I loved the fact that I don’t need any other software for sound editing. I can pretty much do some basic editing with the audio of the recording.

I can delete the original audio recording and replace it with some custom audio or soundtrack. Or mute/delete audio altogether.

You can create a fade-in/ fade-out effect for the audio just by dragging at the position of the audio clip and specifying the duration of the fade. It’s all done on the UI using simple drag-drop operations.

The DemoCreator editor also allows you to remove background noise from your audio recordings. Simply select the audio clip, enable denoise and choose from low/ mid/ high options. This feature can be very useful while you are making reaction videos.
- Resizing video – You can trim the video, resize or crop the recorded screen.

Apart from trimming and restructuring the recording area, you can also split the video recording into parts. And later stitch them together by putting transition videos between them.
The Wondershare rotate video feature also lets you rotate your screen recording.

To split, just drag the yellow playback bar to the position on the video clip where you want to split. Then right-click and select the “Split” option. Then you can drag and slip apart your original recording, and place them as you desire.

- Voice Recorder – The voice recorder can be an extremely vital tool for projects which require clarity of speech and the least noise disturbance. You can connect a microphone to your laptop/ PC and record a voice-over for your screen recording.

To ensure that the screen recording is in sync with the current audio recording, you can play the video on the editor while recording your audio.
- Cursor effects – Wondershare DemoCreator has different cursor effects which let you highlight/ or point to the topic being discussed. To add an effect select the right cursor and simply drag and drop it to the screen recording clip in the editor.

Once the cursor effect is added to the clip, all cursor actions would mimic the cursor effect which was assigned. You can further customize the cursor effect by adjusting the cursor configurations, like opacity, thickness, and area.
You can even hide the cursor by changing its opacity from the cursor configuration screen on the right.
- Annotation effects – Annotations help you to emphasize important information. You can add annotations anywhere on your screen recording. Just select the annotation and drop it on the video clip.

Depending on the need for the annotation, you can change its duration relative to the video clip. You can cut/ copy/ paste existing annotations and also edit, resize, or rotate them.
- Transition effects – You can select from different transition effects in the editor. To add a transition just drag and drop the effect over the video clip.

Then drag the transition effect for the duration till when you want the transition to happen.
- Pan & Zoom – Using this effect you can zoom into a certain portion of the screen. To pan and zoom, just drag and drop the effect on your video clip. Then select the area on the video where you want to zoom in.

You can resize the arrow to indicate zoom in or zoom out or pan from left to right and also specify the duration of this effect. This feature is quite useful and can be used to bring attention to details.
- Green Screen – The green screen feature takes your editing game up a notch. If your recordings have any green screen behind them, then you can use this effect to remove the background from your recording.
If your import has any other background, you can configure the green screen to specifically remove that color too.

- Mosaic – This feature helps to conceal or blur sensitive information from the screen. To apply this effect you need to drag and drop the feature on the clip, and then double click on the mosaic effect added. Then you can select the area on the screen which you want to blur out.
Using the mosaic configurations you can rotate, resize or change the opacity of the blur. Unfortunately, one mosaic effect can only blur one portion of the screen. To blur multiple small areas you need to add multiple effects to your clip.

- Keyboard shortcuts – Wondershare DreamCreator has some handy shortcut keys which can help you speed up your editing tasks. You can find the complete list of keyboard and mouse shortcuts for Windows and Mac.
- Export – Once you have completed editing your video can export it to your local machine or directly on Youtube. While exporting you can specify the video resolution, bitrate, and output format. While exporting to YouTube, you need to first log in to your YouTube account.

Video export time may vary depending on the duration of your recording, the export medium, and the different effects you have added to your recording.

You can even set a sound reminder while you export your videos.

Filmora Scrn review

Filmora Screen Recorder is the predecessor of Wondershare DemoCreator. While going through the Filmora Screen Recorder, I found out that it has continued already.
Filmora Scrn had similar features as that of DemoCreator. Both let you record screen, audio, and webcam content and edit it in the same software. It also lets you add and edit annotations, stickers, and other elements into the screen recording.
You can even add custom audio, mute/denoise a certain portion of the audio, and export it in a format of your choice. All the features of a paid version of Filmora Scrn are available in the free version, but the exported output of the free version would have a Filmora watermark.
As the Filmora Screen Recorder is discontinued you cannot expect any future support or bug resolutions for the application.
Filmora Scrn vs Democreator: What is the difference between them?
The Wondershare screen recorder has a lot more features than its predecessor. It flaunts a clutterless UI, which lets you do more with less confusion.

With DemoCreator you have the option of using Drawing tools while recording your screen. This new feature is an impressive feature that can save you a lot of post-editing time.
DemoreCreator’s Green Screen, allows you to remove/replace background elements. But with Filmora Scr, you had to use different software for such editing.
The Transition effects are a completely new addition, which was not present in Filmora Scr. Also, annotations and captions have received major updates in DemoCreator.
Other Wondershare DemoCreator Alternatives
Other DemoCreator alternatives can get you similar results. Each has its pricing points and add a specific flavor in terms of overall feature.
Depending on respective content creation needs, some creators would rely mostly on recording and less on editing. While others might just be looking for a good editor to edit their audio, video clips with. So your motive should be clear while you are single-in on a screen recorder.
Make sure you weigh in their pros and cons, and even better, take a few trial tests too.
All of the following applications can be used for recording your screen, adding audio and webcam feed, and also allowing you to do post-processing and editing in the same application.
My take
Overall, I was satisfied with the Wondershare DemoCreator review. And I would strongly recommend it for high-volume content creators. Here are its Pros and Cons
Pros
- The installer is not bulky and doesn’t require any system configuration changes.
- Offline editing allows you to edit your pre-recorded content on the run even when you are not connected to the internet.
- During export, you can configure your YouTube channel details. This is a one-time setting, and once set you can directly upload your edited content on YouTube. For regular vloggers, it’s a pretty neat option.
- As the free version has all the features, you can perfect your recording and editing skills before you opt for a paid version, to finally upload watermark-free content on social media.
- Wondershare DemoCreator’s YouTube channel has a good collection of tutorials that teaches you how to use the different Wondershare DemoCreator features.
Cons
- The webcam video preview was a bit stretchy, but the final recording output was just fine.
- DemoCreator is only available on Windows and MAC platforms. No support is available for Linux.
