Synopsis – What to Expect from “Witness”
Witness is a 1985 American neo-noir crime thriller film directed by Peter Weir and starring Harrison Ford, Kelly McGillis, and Lukas Haas.
The film follows John Book (Ford), a Philadelphia homicide detective, who is assigned to investigate the murder of an Amish boy, Samuel Lapp (Haas). Book is forced to go undercover in the Amish community in order to protect Samuel’s mother, Rachel (McGillis), and her son from the killers.
The film opens with John Book arriving in Philadelphia to investigate the murder of a young Amish boy. He soon discovers that the killers are two corrupt police officers, McFee (Josef Sommer) and Schaeffer (Danny Glover). Book is forced to go undercover in the Amish community in order to protect Rachel and her son from the killers.
Book is welcomed into the Amish community and soon finds himself falling in love with Rachel. However, his presence in the community causes tension as the Amish are wary of outsiders and their ways. Book and Rachel must also contend with the two corrupt police officers who are determined to find them.
Book and Rachel eventually find refuge in a nearby city, where they attempt to build a new life together. However, the two corrupt officers eventually catch up with them and a violent confrontation ensues. In the end, Book is able to protect Rachel and her son and bring the two officers to justice.
