Synopsis – What to Expect from “Wildlife”
Wildlife is a 2018 drama film written and directed by Paul Dano. It stars Carey Mulligan, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ed Oxenbould and Bill Camp.
The film tells the story of a teenage boy, Joe (Oxenbould), who is forced to deal with the complexities of adulthood when his parents, Jeanette (Mulligan) and Jerry (Gyllenhaal), are going through a tumultuous divorce. Joe watches helplessly as his mother Jeanette recklessly attempts to reclaim her independence by taking a job as a housekeeper for a wealthy family in a nearby town, leaving Joe and his father Jerry behind.
Meanwhile, Jerry struggles to make ends meet and is forced to take a job fighting forest fires in the nearby mountains. Joe is left to fend for himself and must learn to navigate the difficult terrain of adolescence and adulthood on his own.
The film follows Joe as he discovers the beauty and fragility of the natural world around him and discovers the power of his own voice. As he watches his parents’ marriage unravel, he begins to understand the importance of family and the strength that comes from standing up for what you believe in.
Wildlife is a powerful and beautiful story about family, growing up, and learning to embrace life’s complexities. It is a reminder that no matter how difficult things may seem, there is always hope and beauty to be found in the world around us.
