Synopsis/Plot
Why Him? is a 2016 American romantic comedy film directed by John Hamburg and written by Hamburg, Ian Helfer, and Jonah Hill. The film stars James Franco, Bryan Cranston, Zoey Deutch, Megan Mullally, Griffin Gluck, and Keegan-Michael Key.
The story follows Ned (Bryan Cranston), a loving but overprotective father, who is horrified when his daughter Stephanie (Zoey Deutch) introduces him to her new boyfriend Laird (James Franco). Laird is an eccentric, wealthy, and tattooed Silicon Valley millionaire who is determined to win over Stephanie’s family. Despite his best efforts, Laird’s outrageous behavior and lack of social graces make it difficult for him to win over the family.
The film is a hilarious and heartwarming story of family, acceptance, and learning to appreciate the differences that make us unique. As Ned and Laird’s relationship develops, Ned learns to appreciate Laird’s unique qualities and Laird learns to be more sensitive to the needs of those around him.
