Synopsis – What to Expect from “Whisky Galore!”
Whisky Galore! is a 1949 British comedy film directed by Alexander Mackendrick and based on the novel by Compton MacKenzie. It tells the story of the fictional Scottish island of Great Todday, which is facing a whisky shortage due to wartime rationing. The islanders are delighted when a ship carrying 50,000 cases of whisky runs aground nearby. The islanders, led by the local constable, hatch a plan to salvage the whisky, despite the efforts of the strict Home Guard commander.
The film opens with the islanders of Great Todday facing a whisky shortage due to wartime rationing. The islanders are desperate for a drink and the local pub is nearly empty. Meanwhile, a ship carrying 50,000 cases of whisky runs aground nearby. The islanders, led by the local constable, hatch a plan to salvage the whisky, despite the efforts of the strict Home Guard commander.
The islanders are successful in their mission and the pub is soon overflowing with whisky. The Home Guard commander is determined to stop the illegal whisky-smuggling and sets out to prove that the islanders are responsible. However, the islanders are one step ahead and manage to hide the evidence.
