Synopsis/Plot
Where Hands Touch is a 2018 British-German drama film written and directed by Amma Asante. Set in 1944 Germany, the film follows the story of Leyna, a 15-year-old biracial German girl whose mother is a white German and father is a black African soldier. Leyna is an outcast in her small German town, and is subjected to both racial and gender discrimination. She falls in love with a young Nazi soldier, Lutz, who is unaware of her heritage. Leyna must navigate the dangerous waters of her identity and struggle to survive in a world that is determined to destroy her.
The film follows Leyna as she faces the harsh realities of life under Nazi rule. She is forced to make difficult decisions in order to protect her family and herself. Throughout the film, she is confronted with the harsh reality of being a biracial person in a time and place where racism and prejudice are rampant. As Leyna’s relationship with Lutz grows, she must make a choice between her own safety and the safety of her family.
