Synopsis/Plot
Whatever Works is a 2009 romantic comedy written and directed by Woody Allen. When he meets a young Southern runaway named Melody (Evan Rachel Wood), he takes her in to live with him. Despite their age difference, Boris and Melody soon fall in love, and Boris attempts to teach her the ways of the world.
The film follows Boris and Melody as they navigate their newfound relationship, and the obstacles that come with it. Boris is forced to confront his own prejudices and insecurities, while Melody has to learn to stand up for herself in a world that doesn’t always accept her. Along the way, they are joined by an eclectic cast of characters, including Boris’ former student, and Melody’s parents, who come to New York to try and take her home.
