What Maisie Knew is a 2013 drama film directed by Scott McGehee and David Siegel, starring Julianne Moore, Alexander Skarsgård, Steve Coogan, Joanna Vanderham, and Onata Aprile.
The movie follows six-year-old Maisie, played by Onata Aprile, who is caught in the middle of her parents’ bitter divorce. Maisie’s mother Susanna (Julianne Moore) is an aging rock star who is struggling with her career and her relationship with her new husband, Lincoln (Alexander SkarsgÃ¥rd). Meanwhile, Maisie’s father Beale (Steve Coogan) is a wealthy art dealer who is often away on business.
Maisie is forced to shuttle between her parents, who are both too wrapped up in their own lives to pay her much attention. As her parents’ divorce proceedings drag on, Maisie is exposed to their hostile exchanges and is left feeling neglected and helpless.
In an effort to provide Maisie with some stability, Susanna hires a nanny, Margo (Joanna Vanderham). At first, Maisie is wary of Margo, but soon the two form a strong bond. Maisie begins to rely on Margo for emotional support and stability, and Margo helps Maisie to navigate the confusing world of her parents’ divorce.
