Synopsis/Plot
What a Girl Wants is a 2003 romantic comedy film directed by Dennie Gordon and starring Amanda Bynes, Colin Firth, and Kelly Preston. The film follows the story of Daphne Reynolds (Bynes), a teenage girl from New York City who discovers that her father is an English aristocrat, Sir Henry Dashwood (Firth). After meeting her father for the first time, Daphne travels to London with her best friend, Ian Wallace (Oliver James), to find acceptance from her father and his family.
Once in England, Daphne meets her father’s fiancée, Glynnis Payne (Preston), and her two half-siblings, Libby (Anna Popplewell) and Ian (Jonathan Slinger). Daphne quickly learns that her father’s family is elitist and uptight, and she must find a way to fit in and win their acceptance. With the help of her best friend, Daphne embarks on a mission to prove that she is worthy of being part of the family.
