Synopsis – What to Expect from “Welcome to Me”
Welcome to Me is a 2015 dark comedy about Alice Klieg, a woman with Borderline Personality Disorder who wins the lottery and uses her newfound wealth to fulfill her lifelong dream of having her own talk show.
Alice Klieg is a woman with Borderline Personality Disorder who has been living on disability checks for the past ten years. She has a strict routine that she follows every day and takes her prescribed medications religiously. One day, she wins the lottery and decides to use her newfound wealth to fulfill her lifelong dream of having her own talk show. She quits her medication and moves to a luxurious hotel in Palm Springs.
Alice hires a production team and arranges for her show to be broadcast on a local cable access channel. She creates a show that is equal parts talk show and therapy session, where she talks about her life and her struggles with mental illness. She also invites guests to discuss their own issues.
Alice’s show is a huge hit and she quickly becomes a celebrity. She is invited to speak at conferences and even appears on a national talk show. However, her newfound fame and success come with a price. Alice’s behavior becomes increasingly erratic and she begins to clash with her production team. Her show starts to spiral out of control, and her mental health begins to suffer.
