Synopsis/Plot
We Bought a Zoo is a 2011 American family comedy-drama film directed by Cameron Crowe and written by Aline Brosh McKenna and Crowe, based on the 2008 memoir of the same name by Benjamin Mee. The film stars Matt Damon as Benjamin Mee, a widowed father who purchases a dilapidated zoo with his family and takes on the challenge of preparing the zoo for its reopening to the public.
The film follows the Mee family as they move to a new home in the English countryside, where Benjamin discovers an abandoned zoo on the grounds of the estate. Despite the objections of his family, Benjamin decides to purchase the zoo and take on the challenge of restoring it. With the help of the zoo’s head keeper, Kelly Foster (Scarlett Johansson), Benjamin and his family work to restore the zoo to its former glory and prepare it for its grand reopening. Along the way, they must overcome personal obstacles and financial difficulties, as well as the skepticism of the local townspeople.
