Synopsis/Plot
Waves is a powerful and emotionally charged drama about a suburban African-American family dealing with an unexpected tragedy. The film follows Tyler (Kelvin Harrison Jr.), a high school senior and star athlete, as he navigates the difficult terrain of his home life, friendships, and romantic relationships. As Tyler struggles to make sense of the world around him, his father, Ronald (Sterling K. Brown), and his mother, Catharine (Renée Elise Goldsberry), try to support him as best they can. But when a sudden and tragic incident shakes the family to its core, Tyler’s life is thrown into chaos.
The film follows Tyler’s journey as he attempts to cope with his grief, guilt, and anger, all while trying to maintain his relationships with his family and friends. Along the way, Tyler’s relationships with his father, mother, and sister, Emily (Taylor Russell), are tested and strained. As the family struggles to pick up the pieces, Tyler must learn to accept the consequences of his actions and find the strength to move forward.
