Synopsis/Plot
Waterworld is a 1995 American post-apocalyptic science fiction action film directed by Kevin Reynolds and co-written by Peter Rader and David Twohy. It stars Kevin Costner, who also produced it, as the protagonist, a drifter who becomes embroiled in the battle for survival in a future where the polar ice caps have melted and the Earth is covered with water.
The film takes place in the distant future, where the polar ice caps have melted and the Earth is covered with water. The human race has been reduced to a few scattered tribes of survivors, who live on the remains of the old world and its artifacts. The main character is “The Mariner”, a mysterious drifter who roams the oceans in his trimaran. He is searching for “Dryland”, a mythical place that is rumored to be the last uninhabited area on Earth.
The Mariner discovers the Atoll, a floating island populated by the Smokers, a tribe of pirates who have enslaved a group of women and children and are searching for the mythical Dryland. The Mariner joins forces with the women and children in an effort to escape the Smokers and find Dryland.
