Synopsis/Plot
Water for Elephants is a 2011 romantic drama film based on Sara Gruen’s novel of the same name. The film stars Reese Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson, and Christoph Waltz, and is directed by Francis Lawrence.
The movie follows the story of Jacob Jankowski, a veterinary student who, after losing his parents in a car accident, drops out of college and joins the Benzini Brothers Most Spectacular Show on Earth, a struggling circus in the 1930s. There he meets Marlena, the beautiful star of the equestrian act, and her husband, August, the animal trainer. Jacob and Marlena begin to develop a forbidden love affair, while August becomes increasingly jealous and dangerous.
Jacob soon finds himself in the middle of a struggle between August and the circus’ owner, Uncle Al. Jacob is forced to find a way to save the circus, as well as his own life, while still trying to protect Marlena from her abusive husband.
