Waking Up in Reno is a romantic comedy set in the American south. The movie follows the lives of two couples from different backgrounds. Roy and Candy, played by Patrick Swayze and Natasha Richardson, are a married couple from Texas. They are on a road trip to Reno, Nevada, to attend the National Rodeo Finals, where Roy hopes to win a big prize.
Meanwhile, Lonnie and Darlene, played by Billy Bob Thornton and Charlize Theron, are a couple from Arkansas. They are also on their way to Reno for the Rodeo Finals, but their reasons are a bit more mysterious.
When the two couples meet at a diner in Texas, they quickly become friends. Roy and Candy invite Lonnie and Darlene to join them on the road to Reno, and the four of them set off together in Roy’s pickup truck. On the way to Reno, they share stories, play pranks, and get into a few scrapes.
Once they arrive in Reno, the couples find themselves in a strange and exciting world. They explore the city, gamble, and attend a wild party.
