Synopsis/Plot
Waitress is a 2007 romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Adrienne Shelly. The film follows Jenna, a small-town waitress trapped in an unhappy marriage. Jenna is pregnant and desperate for a way out of her marriage, so she turns to her friends, her job, and her talent for baking pies, to find the happiness and independence she so desperately desires.
Jenna is a gifted pie-maker who works at Joe’s Diner. She is married to Earl, an abusive and controlling husband, and is pregnant with his child. Jenna finds solace in her friends, Dawn and Becky, who work at the diner with her. She also finds support in her doctor, Dr. Pomatter, who is kind and understanding of her situation.
When Jenna enters a pie-baking contest with a $25,000 prize, she sees it as an opportunity to finally break free of her unhappy marriage. With the help of her friends and her pies, Jenna embarks on a journey of self-discovery and finds the courage to pursue her dreams.
