Synopsis – What to Expect from “Volunteers”
Volunteers is a comedy released in 1985 starring Tom Hanks and John Candy.
The movie follows the story of Lawrence Bourne III (Tom Hanks), an American businessman who is sent to Thailand to build a bridge for a remote village. Lawrence soon discovers that the people of the village lack the resources and knowledge to build the bridge themselves, and so he must enlist the help of a group of volunteers to help him complete the project.
Lawrence and the volunteers soon find themselves in a series of comedic and dangerous situations as they face off against the local wildlife, hostile locals, and even the Thai army. Along the way, Lawrence meets a beautiful local girl, Yvonne (Rita Wilson), who helps him with his mission.
As the volunteers work together to complete the bridge, Lawrence and Yvonne grow closer, and soon they realize they have feelings for each other. However, their relationship is tested when the Thai army decides to take over the bridge-building project. Lawrence and the volunteers must find a way to outsmart the army and finish the bridge before it is too late.
In the end, Lawrence and the volunteers manage to complete the bridge, and Lawrence and Yvonne rekindle their relationship. The movie ends with Lawrence and Yvonne getting married and the villagers celebrating the completion of the bridge.
