Synopsis – What to Expect from “Viva Zapata!”
Viva Zapata! is a 1952 biographical drama film directed by Elia Kazan and starring Marlon Brando as Mexican revolutionary Emiliano Zapata.
The film tells the story of Zapata’s rise to power in Mexico during the early 20th century, as he leads a peasant revolution against the oppressive government of Porfirio Diaz. It follows Zapata from his humble beginnings as a poor peasant to his eventual rise to power and leadership of the revolutionary army. Along the way, he must confront the challenges of his own personal life, including his marriage to a beautiful young woman, his relationship with his brother, and his struggle to maintain his integrity and idealism in the face of political corruption.
The film begins in 1910, when the Mexican people are living under the oppressive rule of Porfirio Diaz. Zapata is a poor peasant living in the village of Anenecuilco, and is determined to fight for the rights of his people. He soon joins the revolutionary cause and begins to organize the peasants into a revolutionary army. He faces many obstacles along the way, including a rival revolutionary, Victoriano Huerta, and the powerful forces of the government.
Eventually, Zapata is able to rally the people and lead them to victory, overthrowing Diaz and establishing a new government. However, the new government is soon infiltrated by corrupt politicians, and Zapata must fight to maintain the integrity of the revolution and keep it from
