Synopsis – What to Expect from “Victim”
Victim is a 1961 British crime drama film starring Dirk Bogarde and Sylvia Syms. The film tells the story of a successful barrister, Melville Farr (Bogarde), who is married to a woman, Laura (Syms). Farr is blackmailed by a gang of criminals after they discover that he is a homosexual. Farr is forced to defend a client, a young man accused of murder, in order to protect his own secret.
The film begins with Farr being blackmailed by a group of criminals led by Jack Barrett (Peter McEnery). Farr is forced to defend a young man, Johnny (Donald Sumpter), who is accused of murdering a rich woman. Farr must use his skills as a barrister to prove Johnny’s innocence, while also trying to protect his own secret.
At the same time, Farr is struggling with his own internal conflict as he tries to reconcile his homosexuality with his marriage to Laura. As the trial progresses, Farr must face the truth about himself and his relationship with Laura as he fights to save Johnny’s life.
The film reaches its climax as Farr must make a difficult decision between protecting his own secret and doing what is right. In the end, Farr’s courage and integrity prevail as he stands up for what he believes in and gives Johnny a chance to prove his innocence.
