Synopsis/Plot
Vice is a 2018 American biographical comedy-drama film written and directed by Adam McKay. It stars Christian Bale as former U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney, with Amy Adams, Steve Carell, Sam Rockwell, Alison Pill, Lily Rabe, Tyler Perry, Justin Kirk, and Jesse Plemons in supporting roles.
The film follows Cheney’s political rise, from his early days as a bureaucratic Washington insider in the Nixon and Ford administrations, to his time as Secretary of Defense during the George H. W. Bush administration, and his ultimate rise to become the most powerful Vice President in U.S. history under George W. Bush. Vice also features a look at the aftermath of the Iraq War, and Cheney’s role in the Bush administration’s use of torture.
The film is presented in a non-linear narrative, jumping between various points in Cheney’s career. It combines archival footage with interviews and humorous reenactments of key events in Cheney’s life.
Vice received critical acclaim, with praise for Bale’s performance, McKay’s direction, and its screenplay. At the 76th Golden Globe Awards, the film was nominated for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy, and Best
