Veronika Decides to Die is a 2009 psychological drama film based on the novel of the same name by Paulo Coelho. The film follows Veronika, a young woman in her twenties living in Slovenia. After a failed suicide attempt, Veronika finds herself in a mental institution where she meets a variety of characters.
Veronika is a young woman in her twenties living in Slovenia. She is beautiful, intelligent, and has a good job, but she is also deeply unhappy and feels like she has no purpose in life. One day, she decides to take her own life by overdosing on sleeping pills.
However, Veronika survives the attempt and wakes up in Villete, a mental institution. There, she meets a variety of characters, including a former professor, a suicidal man, and a young girl with anorexia. Through her interactions with these characters, Veronika begins to question the meaning of life and her own purpose.
Veronika also meets Dr. Igor, a doctor at the institution who is studying the effects of suicide on the human psyche. Dr. Igor encourages Veronika to live and to embrace life, even though she is still determined to end her life.
