Synopsis – What to Expect from “Up in Smoke”
Up in Smoke is a 1978 comedy directed by Lou Adler and starring Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong. The movie follows two stoners, Pedro de Pacas (Chong) and Man (Marin), who are trying to drive from Los Angeles to Tijuana, Mexico, in order to get a van made entirely out of marijuana. Along the way, they encounter various obstacles such as a crazed sheriff, a drug-sniffing dog, and a rock band.
The movie begins with Pedro and Man driving down the highway in Pedro’s beat-up car. They are trying to make it to Tijuana to get Pedro’s van made out of marijuana. Along the way, they pick up a hitchhiker, Strawberry, and run into a crazed sheriff who is out to get them. The sheriff chases them through the desert, but they manage to escape.
The trio eventually makes it to Tijuana, where they meet Pedro’s friend, the mysterious Stoner. Stoner gives them the van, but it is not what they expected. It is a brightly-colored van made out of marijuana, which is illegal in the United States.
Pedro and Man then decide to drive the van back to Los Angeles. On the way, they run into a drug-sniffing dog and a rock band, both of which cause them trouble. Eventually, they make it back to Los Angeles, where they are arrested by
