Synopsis – What to Expect from “Unplanned”
Unplanned is a 2019 American biographical drama that tells the story of Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood clinic director who became an anti-abortion activist.
The movie begins with Abby Johnson (Ashley Bratcher) as a successful director of a Planned Parenthood clinic in Texas. She is a dedicated employee, believing that she is helping women by providing them with access to reproductive health care. She is supported by her husband, Doug (Robia Scott), who stands by her and her work.
However, when Abby is asked to assist with an abortion procedure, she is horrified by what she sees and begins to question her beliefs. She soon finds herself caught between her loyalty to Planned Parenthood and her newfound convictions.
Abby soon finds herself in the spotlight as her story becomes public. She is attacked by both pro-choice and pro-life activists, who are equally determined to get her to change her mind. She is also pressured by Planned Parenthood to recant her story and return to her old job.
Meanwhile, Abby finds support in the form of Shawn Carney (Emma Elle Roberts), a pro-life activist who helps her to find a new purpose in life. Together, they form a group called 40 Days for Life, which is dedicated to helping women in crisis pregnancies.
