Synopsis – What to Expect from “UHF”
UHF is a 1989 American comedy film written by and starring “Weird Al” Yankovic. It follows the story of George Newman (Yankovic), a daydreamer who is left in charge of a failing UHF television station.
When his uncle Harvey (Stanley Brock) passes away, George inherits the UHF station, Channel 62. With the help of his best friend, Bob (David Bowe), George sets out to make the station profitable by introducing outrageous programming. The station’s lineup includes “Wheel of Fish,” a game show hosted by a fish, “Stanley Spadowski’s Clubhouse,” a children’s show starring a janitor, and “Raul’s Wild Kingdom,” an animal show featuring a pet gerbil.
Meanwhile, George’s arch-nemesis, the wealthy R.J. Fletcher (Michael Richards), is determined to put Channel 62 out of business. Fletcher’s station, Channel 8, is the only other UHF station in town and he doesn’t want the competition. He tries to sabotage Channel 62 by buying up all the advertising spots and hiring away their top talent.
With the station on the brink of collapse, George and Bob devise a plan to save it. They organize a telethon to raise money and enlist the help of all their crazy show hosts.
