The movie begins with the couple driving along the French Riviera, reminiscing about their previous trips together. They stop at a roadside café, where they meet an old friend, Henri (Jacques Brel). He tells them about his new job as a tour guide and invites them to join him.
The couple agrees and they embark on an adventure of a lifetime, travelling through the French countryside, visiting various cities throughout Europe. Along the way, they experience a range of emotions, from joy and excitement to sadness and regret.
As their journey progresses, they begin to question their relationship and whether they are truly meant to be together. They also meet a variety of interesting people, including a mysterious woman (Françoise Dorléac) who seems to have a mysterious past.
As the movie progresses, the couple’s relationship is tested and they must decide if they are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to make their relationship work. In the end, they must decide if they are going to stay together or go their separate ways.
