Synopsis/Plot
Tully is a 2018 American comedy-drama film directed by Jason Reitman and written by Diablo Cody. It stars Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass, Ron Livingston, and Lia Frankland.
The film follows Marlo (Theron), a mother of three including a newborn, who is gifted a night nanny by her brother (Duplass). Hesitant to the extravagance at first, Marlo comes to form a unique bond with the thoughtful, surprising, and sometimes challenging young nanny named Tully (Davis).
The film follows Marlo as she navigates the challenges of motherhood. As she struggles to balance her responsibilities as a mother with her other roles in life, Marlo begins to feel overwhelmed and exhausted. When her brother gifts her a night nanny, Marlo hesitantly accepts and finds that Tully is able to provide her with the support she needs to cope with her demanding lifestyle. Through their relationship, Marlo is able to confront the issues she has been avoiding in her life, allowing her to find the balance she needs to be a better mother and person.
