Synopsis – What to Expect from “Trust”
Trust is a 2010 drama film directed by David Schwimmer and starring Clive Owen, Catherine Keener, Viola Davis, and Liana Liberato. The film follows the story of a fourteen-year-old girl, Annie (Liana Liberato), who is groomed online by a sexual predator, Charlie (Chris Henry Coffey).
The film begins with Annie’s parents, Will (Clive Owen) and Lynn (Catherine Keener), trying to understand why their daughter is so quiet and withdrawn. When they question her, she tells them about her online relationship with Charlie, a thirty-something man she met on a social networking site.
At first, Will and Lynn are skeptical of Charlie’s intentions, but they eventually allow Annie to continue her relationship with him. As the relationship progresses, Charlie begins to groom Annie, sending her gifts and manipulating her into believing that he loves her. Eventually, Annie agrees to meet him in person, and the two begin to date.
Meanwhile, Will and Lynn are growing increasingly concerned about their daughter’s relationship with Charlie. They hire a private investigator to investigate Charlie’s background, and the PI discovers that Charlie is a convicted sex offender with a history of preying on young girls.
Will and Lynn confront Annie about the truth, and the family must come to terms with the consequences of Annie’s relationship with Charlie. In the end, the family must learn to trust each other again and find a way to move
