Synopsis – What to Expect from “Trumbo”
Trumbo is a 2015 biographical drama directed by Jay Roach and starring Bryan Cranston, Diane Lane, Helen Mirren, and Louis C.K.
The movie follows the life and career of Dalton Trumbo, a Hollywood screenwriter who was blacklisted in the 1940s and 1950s due to his political beliefs.
The movie begins in 1947, as Trumbo is one of the most successful and highly paid screenwriters in Hollywood. His success is cut short, however, when he and other screenwriters are called before the House Un-American Activities Committee. Trumbo refuses to answer their questions and is subsequently blacklisted.
Trumbo is forced to work under pseudonyms and in secret, writing for low-budget films. Despite the difficulties, he continues to write and is eventually able to sell a script to Kirk Douglas, who publicly credits Trumbo with the work. This leads to other studios hiring Trumbo and his former colleagues, and eventually the blacklist is broken.
The movie follows Trumbo’s struggles and triumphs as he navigates the difficult waters of the blacklist era. It also shows his strong commitment to his beliefs and his unwavering courage in the face of adversity. The movie is ultimately a celebration of Trumbo’s resilience and his ability to overcome the odds.
