Synopsis/Plot

Trading Places is a 1983 American comedy film directed by John Landis, starring Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy. The film tells the story of two wealthy brothers, Randolph and Mortimer Duke (Ralph Bellamy and Don Ameche), who make a bet on whether a street hustler, Billy Ray Valentine (Murphy), or a Princeton-educated commodity broker, Louis Winthorpe III (Aykroyd), will be more successful if their roles were reversed. When the Duke brothers switch the two men’s lives, Winthorpe and Valentine use their wits to turn the tables on the Dukes and restore their fortunes.

The film follows Winthorpe and Valentine as they adjust to their new lives. Winthorpe goes from a luxurious lifestyle to living in a slum and working on the commodities exchange, while Valentine goes from a life of crime to one of wealth and privilege. The two men team up with a pair of female con artists, Ophelia (Jamie Lee Curtis) and Coleman (Denholm Elliott), to take revenge on the Dukes.
