Synopsis – What to Expect from “Touching the Void”
Touching the Void is a 2003 British docudrama film directed by Kevin Macdonald and based on the 1988 book of the same name by Joe Simpson. The film tells the true story of Simpson and his climbing partner Simon Yates, who in 1985 attempted to scale the Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes.
The film begins with Simpson and Yates, two British mountaineers, setting off on a dangerous mission to climb the Siula Grande. After a successful ascent, they encounter a severe snowstorm and decide to descend the mountain. But during the descent, Simpson falls and breaks his leg. Yates attempts to lower him down the mountain, but eventually has to cut the rope, leaving Simpson to plummet into a crevasse.
Devastated, Yates begins his own descent as Simpson is left alone in the crevasse. Despite his broken leg, Simpson manages to climb out of the crevasse and make his way back to camp. Despite the odds, he makes it to the bottom of the mountain, where he is eventually reunited with Yates.
The film then follows Simpson and Yates as they attempt to make their way back to civilization, facing a number of obstacles along the way. They must traverse treacherous terrain, battle extreme weather conditions, and deal with the psychological effects of their ordeal.
The film ends with Simpson and Yates arriving back in civilization, battered and bruised but still alive. They have survived one of the most dangerous and grueling
