Synopsis – What to Expect from “Topkapi”
Topkapi is a 1964 heist film directed by Jules Dassin. It stars Melina Mercouri, Peter Ustinov, Maximilian Schell, Robert Morley, Gilles Ségal, and Akim Tamiroff.
The movie follows a group of international criminals who come together to plan and execute a daring robbery of the Topkapi Palace Museum in Istanbul. The group is led by Elizabeth Lipp (Melina Mercouri), a former circus performer and con artist. She has recruited her lover, a master thief named Walter Harper (Maximilian Schell), as well as a safecracker, a forger, a pickpocket, and a strongman.
The group travels to Istanbul and begins to plan the heist. They must figure out how to get past the museum’s high-tech security system and into the museum itself. They enlist the help of a Turkish con man, A.J. Raffles (Peter Ustinov), who is familiar with the inner workings of the museum.
The heist is successful, but the group soon finds itself being pursued by both the Turkish police and the museum’s director, who is determined to get back the priceless artifacts they have stolen. The group must now find a way to escape the city with their loot before they are caught.
