Synopsis/Plot
Tommy is a 1975 British musical fantasy drama film written and directed by Ken Russell and based upon The Who’s 1969 rock opera album Tommy. The film tells the story of a young boy who, after witnessing the accidental murder of his father by his mother, becomes deaf, dumb, and blind. He then discovers a newfound talent for playing pinball and becomes an international pinball champion, inspiring a cult following.
The film features a star-studded cast, including Ann-Margret, Oliver Reed, Elton John, Eric Clapton, Tina Turner, and Jack Nicholson. Ann-Margret stars as Tommy’s mother, Nora Walker, a young woman who accidentally kills her husband, Frank, in a fit of rage. Oliver Reed plays Tommy’s stepfather, Captain Walker, a violent and abusive man who attempts to control Tommy’s life. Elton John and Eric Clapton are featured as the Acid Queen and the Preacher, respectively, both of whom attempt to cure Tommy of his affliction. Tina Turner stars as the Pinball Wizard, a mysterious figure who helps Tommy achieve his success in pinball. Jack Nicholson appears as the Specialist, a doctor who attempts to treat Tommy.
