Synopsis/Plot
To the Bone is a 2017 American drama film directed and written by Marti Noxon, based on her own experiences with anorexia nervosa. The film stars Lily Collins as Ellen, a 20-year-old woman struggling with anorexia nervosa. After numerous failed attempts at treatment, Ellen’s stepmother sends her to a group home for youths run by an unconventional doctor, Dr. William Beckham (Keanu Reeves).
At the home, Ellen meets a group of other young people, all of whom are struggling with eating disorders. Through her interactions with them, as well as with Dr. Beckham, Ellen begins to confront her own demons and learn to accept her disorder.
The film explores the complexities of eating disorders and the difficulties of recovery. It also touches on the issues of mental health and the stigma surrounding it. Through its honest portrayal of the struggles faced by those with eating disorders, To the Bone seeks to raise awareness and understanding of the condition.
