Synopsis – What to Expect from “This Must Be the Place”
This Must Be the Place is a 2011 drama film written and directed by Paolo Sorrentino.
Cheyenne (Sean Penn) is a former rock star who has become a recluse in Dublin, Ireland. He spends his days in a daze, going to the same places and seeing the same people. He is haunted by a past he can’t seem to shake.
When Cheyenne learns that his estranged father, an Auschwitz survivor, is dying, he sets out on a journey to America to find the Nazi war criminal who tortured him. Along the way, Cheyenne meets a variety of people who help him on his journey.
In the end, Cheyenne finds the Nazi war criminal, but instead of exacting revenge, he finds a way to forgive him and let go of his past. He also finds a new sense of purpose in life and a connection to the world he had been so disconnected from.
This Must Be the Place is a powerful drama about finding redemption and forgiveness in the face of tragedy. It is a story of hope and redemption, and of finding a place in the world.
