Synopsis – What to Expect from “This Christmas”
This Christmas is a 2007 romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Preston A. Whitmore II. The film follows the lives of the Whitfield family as they come together for the first time in four years to celebrate the holidays.
The film begins with the Whitfield family gathering at the family home in Los Angeles. Ma’Dere Whitfield (Loretta Devine) is the matriarch of the family, and she is determined to make this holiday season special. Her children — Claude (Columbus Short), Michael (Chris Brown), Sharon (Lauren London), and Kelli (Idris Elba) — have all returned home for the holiday, and each of them brings their own unique set of issues.
Claude is a struggling musician trying to make it in the music industry, Michael is a young man trying to find his way in the world, Sharon is a successful businesswoman struggling to find a balance between her career and her family, and Kelli is a soldier returning home from Iraq and trying to adjust to civilian life.
The family is also dealing with the death of their father, who passed away four years prior. As the family struggles to come to terms with their grief, they must also deal with the issues that have come between them.
