Synopsis – What to Expect from “Things We Lost in the Fire”
Things We Lost in the Fire is a 2007 drama film starring Halle Berry and Benicio del Toro. The film follows Audrey Burke (Berry), a mother of two who is struggling to cope with the death of her husband, Brian (David Duchovny).
The film opens with Audrey and Brian’s funeral, which is attended by Audrey’s close friends and family. As the funeral winds down, Audrey is approached by Jerry Sunborne (del Toro), an old friend of Brian’s who was released from prison earlier that day. Jerry had been in prison for the past ten years, and Brian had been his only friend.
Audrey is initially reluctant to let Jerry into her life, but eventually she decides to give him a chance and invites him to stay at her house. As Jerry adjusts to his new life, he and Audrey slowly become closer and form a strong bond.
Meanwhile, Audrey’s two children, Harper (Alec Baldwin) and Dory (Olivia Thirlby), struggle to cope with their father’s death. Harper is especially resentful of Jerry’s presence, while Dory is more open to it. As Audrey and Jerry’s relationship progresses, the tension between Harper and Jerry intensifies.
