Synopsis/Plot
They Live is a 1988 science-fiction, action and horror film directed by John Carpenter and starring Roddy Piper, Keith David, and Meg Foster. The film follows Nada (Piper), a drifter who discovers a pair of special sunglasses that allow him to see the world as it truly is. He discovers that aliens are living among us in disguise, controlling humans through subliminal messages in the media and controlling the world’s economy.
Nada teams up with Frank (David) to fight the aliens and their human collaborators. They wage a guerrilla war against the aliens, destroying their broadcast towers and freeing humanity from their control. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a cult of aliens-worshipping humans, a group of homeless people living in a secret underground city, and a powerful alien leader.
The film is a commentary on consumerism, class disparity, and the power of media to shape our perception of the world. It is a cult classic, praised for its action sequences, dark humor, and social satire.
