Synopsis/Plot
There Will Be Blood is a 2007 American drama film written and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. The film stars Daniel Day-Lewis as a silver miner-turned-oilman on a ruthless quest for wealth during Southern California’s oil boom of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
The film follows the life of Daniel Plainview, a silver miner-turned-oilman who is driven by an intense ambition to succeed and acquire wealth. Plainview’s single-minded pursuit of power and money leads him to ruthlessly exploit the local landowners and workers, and his actions become increasingly violent as his obsession with wealth and power grows.
The film also follows the story of Eli Sunday, a young, charismatic preacher whose church Plainview visits in hopes of buying land. Eli and Plainview’s relationship is complex, and as Plainview’s wealth and power grows, so does the tension between the two.
The film is set against the backdrop of the California oil boom and is filled with intense performances from Day-Lewis and Paul Dano as Eli Sunday. The score by Jonny Greenwood is also noteworthy and adds to the film’s tension and intensity.
There Will Be Blood is a gripping drama that examines the dark
