Synopsis – What to Expect from “Then She Found Me”
Then She Found Me follows the story of April Epner (Helen Hunt), a 39-year-old schoolteacher who finds her life suddenly upended when her biological mother, Bernice Graves (Bette Midler), a flamboyant talk show host, appears out of the blue. April’s adoptive parents died when she was a child, and she has never known her birth mother.
April’s life is further complicated when Bernice reveals that her father is Frank (Colin Firth), a man April has recently begun dating. As April struggles to come to terms with the situation, Bernice encourages her to embrace her newfound family and take a chance on love.
At the same time, April’s best friend, teacher/author Ben (Matthew Broderick), is also struggling with his own issues. After his wife leaves him, Ben begins to rely on April for emotional support. As April and Ben’s relationship deepens, April’s feelings for Frank also grow, and she must decide which path to take.
The film follows April as she navigates her complicated relationships with Bernice, Frank, and Ben, and ultimately learns to accept the joys and challenges that come with family and love.
